One Hyde Park is a major residential and retail complex located in the Knightsbridge area of central London, adjacent to Hyde Park and the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

The development includes 3 retail units totalling 35,800 m2 and 86 residential properties, marketed with prices starting at around £20million. It was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, built by Laing O’Rourke and developed and interior designed by Candy & Candy. Planning consent for the building was granted in June 2006 with demolition of the previous building taking place between July and December of the same year. Construction began in January 2007, with the superstructure of the building being completed in March 2009. Fitting out of the project began in early April 2009.

ICWM was commissioned to provide waste management services to remove all waste generated by the fit-out works from site. Due to the exceptionally high standards set by the project team, ICWM introduced an innovative method of daily vacuuming of the floor areas, ensuring that the floor plates were kept extremely clean. Each waste operative was provided with a cordless backpack vacuum cleaner for use across the site. The vacuum cleaner provided our resource with a flexible and safe alternative to the traditional commercial apparatus normally employed across construction sites.

In addition to mobile compactor collections, ICWM also employed a static compactor to be used to dispose of the mixed waste generated by the project. The compactor assisted the project by reducing vehicle movements, thereby reducing the impact the project had on the environment. ICWM also introduced an innovative portable weighing mechanism, bespoke to the project, that was used to record and audit the weight for each waste stream that was generated in each area of the development. This information facilitated the accurate recording of waste removed data, which the project team reviewed on a monthly basis. This information enabled ICWM to address peculiarities recorded and also contributed to the efficient removal of waste from the project.
