The importance of benchmarking and auditing can not be underestimated. ICWM collect concise data on waste produced and how to most effectively manage the ongoing waste strategies.

All waste emanating from a project is audited on the BRE SmartWaste website with internet username and password produced for the construction manager and client.

KPIs and EPI’s are carefully monitored weekly for each of the 12 waste streams produced which enables ICWM and the client to monitor waste production on the project, and target increased waste streams, reacting to any unusual production trends whilst the project is under construction, instead of once the building is completed. This ensures that a fluid waste management strategy can be implemented and different areas of segregation on site carried out at different stages of the project.

This information can then be utilized on future projects, to set benchmarks for improvements eliminating the guesswork or reliance on skip tickets and producing clear auditable data.

On completion of a project, a close out report will be issued to the client illustrating the successes and improvement in areas such as waste minimization, reuse and recycling of materials / waste, could the project have afforded more space for recycling? Another area of interest would be the level of waste produced by sub-contractors, did they have excess materials, did they produce excess waste, and did they maintain clear working areas? All this information is analysed in order that the necessary benchmarks are set and targets for future projects can be realistically achieved.
