One of their key differentiator was the consistent proactive attitude of their entire team from the individuals on the site to the senior management; they really made a difference in our ability to operate Incident & Injury Free.
Located off Fetter Lane in the City of London, The Rolls Building is the largest specialist centre for the resolution of financial, business and property litigation anywhere in the world.
It has 31 court rooms, including 3 ‘super courts’ to handle the very largest international and national high value disputes as well as 4 courts configured in landscape format for multi-party cases. The building also features 55 consultation rooms, full height glazing throughout and stunning roof terraces. The Rolls Building was designed to provide the most sustainable and efficient environment levels and was awarded an excellent BREEAM rating; the best possible standard for environmental performance. The design minimises energy consumption, and carbon emissions, through a range of proven technologies in both its construction and operation.
Due to the restricted area available on the project, a limited bin collection compound had to be created to ensure that the very best segregation and recycling was achieved. This was not only used as a way of segregating the bins but served as a loading zone for the waste to be sent to the relevant material recycling facility. The aim for recycling on the project was 100% and it was achieved through a strict criteria and management system from the outset. We encouraged every individual onsite to see recycling as a way to achieve an environmental success on the project daily. The Waste Manager audited a variety of waste streams constantly to ensure that the most accurate recycling figures were obtainable.
The waste team knew that it was near enough impossible to reduce the waste output on the project to zero, therefore, focus was placed on what waste was produced. The Waste Manager would control the internal waste streams generated and ensured that the correct waste was taken to the correct recycling facility. The re-use of products or materials that would otherwise become waste would provide a range of social, economic and environmental benefits. For example, pallets and stillages were sprayed and returned to the delivery company; ensuring that any re-usable elements did not enter the waste stream.
